Quarterback Derek Anderson's uneven five-year stint with the Cleveland Browns is over, but he had a parting shot for the team's fans.

Derek AndersonDerek Anderson finally got his wish to leave Cleveland.

The Browns cut him Tuesday, the day after they had acquired Seneca Wallace from Seattle.

It remains to be seen, though, if Anderson's departure gives Brady Quinn the starting spot for a team that remains decidedly uncertain at its most important position.

Quinn suffered through a miserable season in 2009, like just about every other Cleveland player. He has 14 career starts and had a 67.2 rating in '09, which ended when he was sidelined with a Lisfranc injury in his left foot.

There are rumblings in the league that Quinn is unhappy with the way things have gone in Cleveland and would welcome a change as well, but he has not stated anything publicly to that effect.

According to beat writer Tony Grossi, Brady Quinn could be "shipped out" after the recent trade for Seneca Wallace. Derek Anderson is already as good as gone, and Quinn won't be able to learn Mike Holmgren's West Coast offense and beat out Wallace in one offseason. [...]

Mike Holmgren already is making deals with his former team. The Seattle Seahawks confirmed Monday that they had traded backup quarterback Seneca Wallace to Holmgren's Cleveland Browns in exchange for a undisclosed 2011 draft pick.

Seneca WallaceThe Cleveland Browns have traded for a quarterback, but it doesn't quite look like he's the long-term answer. The Browns have dealt what will likely end up a late-round draft pick to the Seattle Seahawks for Seneca Wallace, according to a tweet from ESPN's Adam Shefter.

Wallace is a career backup who has appeared in 47 games for the Seahawks since being selected in the fourth round of the 2003 NFL Draft. It's worth nothing that Mike Holmgren was part of the brain trust who drafted Wallace and is now the team president of the Browns, so he may really see something in the agile 29-year-old.

Wallace has a career quarterback rating of 83.1 and has, at times, filled in quite admirably in the absence of Seattle's long-time starter Matt Hasselbeck. Still, the Seahawks won just five of his 15 career starts and lost all three of the sort in 2009. He does seem to present a nice wildcat duo with Josh Cribbs in the backfield, should the Browns decide to use that tandem as a change of pace.

Tony PashosWe may not know exactly who will be quarterbacking Cleveland come Week 1 of the 2010 season, but whoever it is will have some more protection up front. The Browns inked free-agent offensive tackle Tony Pashos to a three-year, $10.3 million deal Sunday.

Pashos is a seven-year vet who missed 11 games in 2009 with a fractured shoulder blade, but started 47 of a possible 48 games in the three years prior between Jacksonville and Baltimore.

Saturday, some reports had Pashos on the verge of signing a deal with the Redskins -- who did manage to lock up free-agent OT Artis Hicks. But Pashos' agent shot those rumors down, telling the Washington Post's Jason Reid, ""It's not true. It's not true. He left the building. He's headed to Cleveland right now."

In bringing in respected Tom Heckert, who has been the Philadelphia Eagles' general manager since 2006, Mike Holmgren has given coach Eric Mangini a qualified executive to add players and continue to build the Cleveland Browns, who finished the season on a four-game winning streak.
The Browns hired Philadelphia Eagles general manager Tom Heckert for the same position in Cleveland, the team announced Monday.
Eric Mangini would be wise to clean off his desk and tidy up his office. There's still time for the Cleveland Browns coach to fit in a haircut and shave. Mangini needs to be ready. His new boss is coming.
Jerome Harrison scored his third touchdown with 44 seconds left and rushed for a team-record 286 yards, and Josh Cribbs returned two kickoffs for touchdowns to lift the Browns to a 41-34 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
There's nothing Super about the Pittsburgh Steelers anymore. The defending NFL champions lost their fifth straight and had their playoff hopes thrown for a loss by the lowly Cleveland Browns, who ended a 12-game skid against their bitter rival by beating the Steelers 13-6 on Thursday night in subzero wind chills.
Growing up a die-hard Browns fan, Brady Quinn learned from an early age that those neighbors from Pennsylvania wearing black and gold were the enemy, Iron City villains to be despised and beaten whenever possible.

There comes a time in every mediocre season where a team will have to make a difficult decision. That time has come for the Carolina Panthers.

It was a revelation in Oakland Sunday. The starting quarterback struggled a bit, but didn't make dumb decisions or do more to beat his team than beat the opponent. Instead, he led his team on a late touchdown drive to tie the score, then got a break to pick up the win.
