Turnover-prone early, Tebow bounces back in Broncos’ loss to Vikings

Tim Tebow's first two series had rookie written all over them. Then he started playing with the veteran-like poise that helped him get drafted in the first round by the Denver Broncos.

Tim Tebow, Brady Quinn to Battle for Top Understudy in Preseason Finale

The performances of rookie Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow and veteran counterpart Brady Quinn in Thursday's exhibition finale at Minnesota could be a determining factor in which one serves as the primary backup to Kyle Orton.

Coach Josh McDaniels said earlier this week that the No. 2 job remains up for grabs.

"It's a competitive situation," McDaniels said. "Both players have done some good things. Both players have turned the ball over. I think both players have plenty of room to improve.

"From that standpoint, I think this game will probably help us determine kind of where we see everything."

Tim Tebow Closes Strong in NFL Debut

It tooTim Tebow Broncos debutk until the waning seconds of Denver's preseason opener with Cincinnati, but Tim Tebow eventually showed why the Broncos faithful have such high hopes for him.

Tebow finished off a bit of an uneven night by marching Denver down the field in the game's final minute, then capping that drive with a seven-yard touchdown run as time expired on the Bengals' 33-24 win.

"I saw an opening, so I went to go get it and thankfully got in there," Tebow said.

The 2007 Heisman Trophy winner hit on 4 of 5 passes in that closing drive for 66 yards, highlighted by a 33-yard strike to Britt Davis.

"It was one of those things where you knew he was going to score on the last play of the game, either run it in or throw it in there," Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer said. "He's such a competitor. I've been a big fan of his ever since he started at Florida. He's one of the greatest college football players."

Prior to that, Tebow had been 4 of 8, including one dropped deep ball by Matt Willis. He also found himself on the fortunate end of a video review -- on a third-and-11 from the Denver 42, Tebow was clobbered by a Cincinnati blitz, lost the ball, and the Bengals' Frostee Rucker recovered it and ran it in for an apparent score. A video review overturned that play, though, instead ruling it an incompletion. On the ensuing fourth-down play, Tebow fumbled the ball, leading to a turnover-on-downs.

Kyle Orton Asserting Himself as Broncos’ Starting Quarterback

Amid all the hype surrounding rookie quarterback Tim Tebow, the Denver Broncos actually have no quarterback controversy at all.

The team brought Brady Quinn in from Cleveland during the offseason, giving him a chance to get away from a place where things weren't working well. Quinn was expected to give Orton a push for the starting quarterback job, and the buzz with Tebow is pretty incredible.

With all that going on, all Orton has done is go out and take a stranglehold on the starting quarterback job.

Tebow becomes big draw at Broncos training camp

The Denver Broncos kicked off training camp without the negativity that enveloped them a year ago, when their two first-round draft picks were holdouts and the man wearing No. 15 was recalcitrant wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

Tim Tebow’s Contract Done in Denver

The Denver Broncos announced that they had agreed to a five-year deal with quarterback Tim Tebow, the 25th pick in April's draft, continuing a recent run of first-round draft pick signings.

NFL Network's Michael Lombardi first reported the deal was done.

Lombardi reports Tebow's deal is worth a max $33 million over five years, and the rookie QB will get $8.7 million guaranteed. It's a bigger deal than the player picked before him -- Dallas receiver Dez Bryant -- received, but that isn't a huge surprise, as there were reports Tebow wanted more money than Bryant because he is a quarterback.

The Broncos traded up into the end of the first round, dealing with Baltimore to acquire the pick they used on Tebow, a four-year star at Florida and one of the draft's most interesting stories.

With so many questions about his ability to play the quarterback position on an every-down basis in the NFL, it was a surprise to some that Tebow was selected in the first round.
