According to the Philadelphia Daily News, league spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed that the NFL had completed its investigation into the case and Vick would sidestep a suspension. "There is no change in [Vick's] playing status," Aiello said in an email.

NFL Notebook, July 12: Eagles Not Interested in Troy Smith

Troy SmithHere's what's happening around the National Football League on Tuesday, July 12, 2010:

o. As questions continue to swirl around Michael Vick's future with the Eagles, the team could soon find itself in need of a backup QB behind new starter Kevin Kolb. One name that's come up recently is Troy Smith, the current second-stringer in Baltimore.

An Eagles source shot down that rumor to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, though.

Smith is only under contract through 2010, then set to be a free agent in 2011. He's started just three games -- all in his rookie season -- during three years with the Ravens and still hasn't thrown 100 career passes.

o. Shaun Rogers will be placed into a 12-month diversion program in Ohio after police found a loaded handgun in his carry-on bag at Cleveland's Hopkins Airport.

Rogers must complete a 10-hour weapons course, The Plain Dealer reported, as well as 40 hours of community service. Once he finishes both requirements, the charges against him will be dropped.

"I'm hopeful and confident that Shaun will complete the program successfully and that this will be expunged from his record,'' Rogers' attorney, Patrick D'Angelo, told the Plain-Dealer.
