The Saints will be hosting a hometown boy on Friday, as Jason LaCanfora from NFL.com reports that they will have a sitdown with former Panthers QB Jake Delhomme: Delhomme also is set to visit the New Orleans Saints on Friday and Saturday, a team source told NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora. Delhomme is a Louisiana native who began his NFL career with the Saints in 1998 and spent five seasons with the team. Delhomme would back up Drew Brees in New Orleans, but he could have a chance to start in Cleveland. The Browns have been actively shopping for a quarterback, a position they haven’t been able to adequately fill since their NFL expansion return in 1999. Earlier this week, the team acquired backup Seneca Wallace in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks and released Derek Anderson, who took a swipe at Cleveland fans on his way out of town.
New Orleans Saints executive vice president/general manager Mickey Loomis announced Thursday that the club has re-signed long snapper Jason Kyle to a one-year contract. Kyle, a veteran of 15 NFL seasons, joined the Saints as a free agent last June after playing eight seasons with the Carolina Panthers. The 6-3, 242-pound former college linebacker at Arizona State snapped in all 16 games for the Saints in 2009 as well as the three postseason contests, making two tackles on special teams.

Just when you thought you had had enough of Jake Delhomme (pictured), it looks like we could be getting more. Delhomme is scheduled to come visit with the Saints according to Nola.com. He'll be in New Orleans this weekend to visit with team officials. I hate to say it, but I saw this one coming from a mile away. With Brunell inching closer to 40, I figured the Saints would want a veteran backup they can trust. It should be interesting to see how this one plays out. Because he's been cut, he wouldn't cut against the Saints' ability to sign a free agent (made possible by Scott Fujita's departure). There's no chance at this point in his career that Delhomme will get an offer to start anywhere, so why not come back to a town he knows very well that's close to home? Oh, and the Saints represent a good chance for him to get a SuperBowl ring, too. It's a remarkably good fit for all sides involved and I really do believe a deal will happen. Can't say I love it, either, because his history with the Panthers post New Orleans has really soured me on the guy. All things considered, though, if Delhomme is healthy from his injuries I believe he represents an upgrade over Brunell as a #2 quarterback. In other news, word around town is also that the Saints are hosting New Orleans native and former St. Louis Ram James Hall, and a deal between the two sides could be imminent. Hall would likely be first in line to replace Charles Grant as a starter on the defensive line. While his signing wouldn't leave me enamored, I can't imagine Hall would represent much of a drop off from Grant.

There had been reports that the Eagles were interested in restricted free agent running back Mike Bell. A team source said however that a deal was unlikely. The Saints placed the low tender on Mike Bell, which requires no compensation if any team signed him to an offer sheet.

Why don't more teams go all out for proven restricted free agents?
