Brett Favre on 2010: I Haven’t Decided Yet

Brett FavreAfter taking home an ESPY award for "Best Play" -- a dramatic, last-second game-winning TD pass to Greg Lewis against the 49ers -- Brett Favre continued his now-annual dance around retirement, telling ESPN that he hasn't yet decided if he'll play in 2010.

"I still have a little bit of time," Favre said during a post-ESPYs interview. "I'm still, believe it or not, not completely healthy, and I may never be."

Favre had ankle surgery earlier this offseason, a procedure that he called "relatively minor" but one he also reportedly needed in order to suit up for Minnesota this season. Dr. James Andrews, who performed Favre's surgery, said in mid-June that Favre had "a few more weeks of rehabbing" to complete before he could take the field again.

Tarvaris Jackson / T. Jackson not concerned about when Favre arrives | tavaris jackson

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that Tarvaris Jackson said that Brett Favre's timing over when he announces his decision to retire or comeback doesn't affect Jackson's approach to training camp. "If he doesn't show up to Mankato (where training camp is hosted), sign the same time he did last year, that's fine, that's more reps for me, Sage [Rosenfels] and Joe [Webb]," Jackson said. "We just basically try to take advantage of it. When he comes back, be ready mental...

NFL Notebook, June 21: Joe Webb Opening Eyes in Minnesota

Joe WebbHere's what's happening around the National Football League on Monday, June 21, 2010:

o. The Vikings' starting quarterback job in 2010 belongs to either Brett Favre or Tarvaris Jackson, no question asked at this point -- it's Favre's if he opts to play one more year; it's Jackson's if he doesn't.

But what about beyond that? Despite his constant veil of mystery, Favre's very unlikely to suit up in 2011. Jackson, meanwhile, is only signed through 2010, and Sage Rosenfels, Minnesota's third-stringer last year, appears on his way out. All those factors are part of what makes Vikings rookie Joe Webb so intriguing.

Minnesota drafted the athletic Webb in the sixth round with the intention of playing him at wide receiver. But Webb, who was a four-year quarterback at UAB, has shifted back under center during offseason workouts, and Star Tribune columnist Sid Hartman says he's been so impressive that he "could be the quarterback of the future" in Minnesota.

Brett Favre’s Ankle Surgery ‘Went Fine’

Brett Favre's recent aBrett Favrenkle surgery was a success, according to famed orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews.

"It went fine," Andrews told the Associated Press. "He's rehabbing and trying to decide what he's going to do. I talked to him [Tuesday]."

Andrews added that Favre has a "few more weeks of rehabbing" to complete and that Minnesota's QB isn't sure of his plans for the 2010 season yet. And while the latter point may be true, the Vikings -- and just about everyone else -- are anticipating Favre's return. When that happens, however, is another issue.

Judd Zulgad of the Star Tribune reported that inside Minnesota's organization, the belief is that Favre will skip training camp and the Vikings' first two preseason games, then return against Seattle on Aug. 28. That would give Favre two weeks to prepare for Minnesota's regular-season opener, Sept. 9 at Super Bowl champion New Orleans.

Like Everyone Else, Tarvaris Jackson Waits for Brett Favre

Tarvaris JacksonIf Brett Favre's annual indecision drives you nuts, imagine what it's like to be Tarvaris Jackson -- the man most likely to be the Minnesota Vikings' starting quarterback should Favre finally decide to retire for real. In a phone interview with FanHouse on Friday, Jackson said this year feels different from last year "because there's a very strong chance" Favre comes back and plays for the Vikings. But he admits that waiting to find out for sure isn't his idea of a great time.

"Obviously, you wouldn't want to go through it," Jackson said. "I'm not sure any guy would want to be in this position year in and year out, but it's my situation and I've got to deal with it the best I can."

Tarvaris Jackson / Jackson has taken plenty of heat for his performance, and physically he’s been hurt a lot too over four

Jackson has taken plenty of heat for his performance, and physically he's been hurt a lot too over four NFL seasons. Last summer, he was brushed aside for Brett Favre. For all Jackson has been beat up or bumped back, though, he can't hide his smile.

Impacts: Jackson was asked if he had a gut feeling about whether Favre will return or not. "Yeah, I do. I'm not going to share it,'' Jackson said, flashing that grin. ``But I think everybody has their feeling, and I think everybody is pretty much on the same page.'' Jackson attempted 21 passes last season, the fewest since he turned pro and all in mop-up duty.

Tarvaris Jackson / Jackson stays with Vikings

News: The Vikings have re-signed restricted free agent QB Tarvaris Jackson, it was announced Monday. Jackson, who served in a backup role with the addition of Brett Favre in 2009, appeared in eight games. Jackson has 19 career starts with 21 career passing TDs and four rushing TDs. Analysis: Jackson will again be the No. 2 QB in Minnesota once Favre announces he will return for 2010. If Favre does retire then Jackson will have the chance to compete for the starting job, but Jackson has minimal Fantasy value heading into this season. Don't plan on drafting him in any leagues unless Favre retires. [...]
