A 20-year-old college student accused Roethlisberger, the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, of sexually assaulting her at the nearby Capital City nightclub early Friday during a night on the town near where he owns a lake home. Buffington's decided to rename the burger.

An attorney for Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has hired a private investigator to look into a sexual assault allegation made by a 20-year-old Georgia college student. Police in the college town of Milledgeville continue to investigate, but have released little information since the accusation was made a week ago.


Running back Larry Johnson has signed with the Washington Redskins. Johnson is a two-time Pro Bowl pick who has run for 6,219 yards and 55 touchdowns in eight NFL seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals. LaDainian Tomlinson's visit with the New York Jets is going to overtime. The free agent running back met with team officials at the Jets' training facility in Florham Park, N.J., on Friday and planned to have dinner with coach Rex Ryan, general manager Mike Tannenbaum and others in New Jersey.
Free agent offensive lineman Rex Hadnot has agreed to a three-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals, who also have re-signed center Ben Claxton to a one-year contract. Hadnot played the last two years with the Cleveland Browns after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Miami Dolphins. He has started at both guard and center.
Antonio Bryant is the latest complementary receiver to Chad Ochocinco in Cincinnati. Bryant signed a four-year deal with the Bengals on Friday. He ostensibly replaced Laveranues Coles, who spent the 2009 season with the team, but then was released. "It was definitely a plus to me that this team really seemed to want me," Bryant said in a conference call.
The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms with cornerback Rod Hood, an unrestricted free agent. Hood, heading toward his eighth NFL season, made four starts for the Titans in 2009. He had 18 tackles and tied for second on the team with three interceptions after being signed as a free agent in October.
The Philadelphia Eagles have signed free agent wide receiver Hank Baskett to a one-year contract. Baskett was released by the Eagles last September after three seasons in Philadelphia. He then signed with Indianapolis and played 15 games, including playoffs. Baskett had 71 catches for 1,046 yards and six touchdowns in 47 games with the Eagles.
The Cleveland Browns filled a gaping offensive hole, signing free agent tight end Ben Watson to a multiyear contract. Watson spent the past six seasons with the New England Patriots, where he previously worked with Browns coach Eric Mangini and offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. The Browns did not release financial terms.

Hall of Famer Merlin Olsen, who helped form one of the NFL's greatest defensive lines before embarking on a successful career in television, died Thursday after a battle with cancer. He was 69. Olsen was a member of the Los Angeles Rams' "Fearsome Foursome" along with Deacon Jones, Lamar Lundy and Rosey Grier in the 1960s.

"We street," Willie Clark told wide receiver Brandon Marshall, according to court testimony.


The New York Jets and safety Brodney Pool, whose career appeared to be threatened by head injuries, agreed in principle to a one-year contract Thursday worth $1.3 million. The deal includes $1.2 million guaranteed, agent Ben Dogra told The Associated Press. Pool wasn't given a second-round tender by Cleveland last week, making him an unrestricted free agent.
The Oakland Raiders released defensive tackle Gerard Warren on Thursday, letting go of yet another veteran this offseason. The decision to release Warren follows moves in the past week to cut ties with running back Justin Fargas, defensive end Greg Ellis and receiver Javon Walker. Those moves help the Raiders save money, as well as open up opportunities for young players to get more significant...
The Minnesota Vikings wined and dined LaDainian Tomlinson on Wednesday night, then spent much of Thursday meeting with the star running back in hopes of pairing him with Adrian Peterson in what would be a big-name backfield. Tomlinson emerged from Vikings headquarters on Thursday evening with a purple Vikings jersey in hand, but pulled away in a black limousine without a deal in place.
The Cleveland Browns spent another day looking for a new quarterback by meeting with an older one. Free agent Jake Delhomme, released last week after seven seasons with the Carolina Panthers, visited Thursday with the perpetually rebuilding Browns, who have been busy this week trying to improve their unstable situation at QB.
New England Patriots running back Kevin Faulk didn't want to go out like Nomar Garciaparra. Watching the former Boston Red Sox All-Star shortstop retire on Wednesday helped convince Faulk that he wanted to spend his entire career with the Patriots. So Faulk re-signed with the Patriots, the team that made him a second-round draft choice in 1999 and the only team he's ever played for.
